As a 24 hour locksmith Burngreave and Pitsmoor residents can call any time, Sheffield Locksmith 24H works out of Broughton Lane in S9, which is only a short drive across Brightside to S4. That makes Burngreave, Grimesthorpe, Page Hall and Wincobank some of the areas we reach most easily. We handle lockouts, lock changes, uPVC door repairs, broken keys, landlord lock changes and boarding up after a break in, day or night, with the price agreed on the phone before we leave.

The area has some of the most varied housing in the city. There are long rows of Victorian terraces around Page Hall Road and Grimesthorpe, large old villas in Pitsmoor that have been split into flats, council houses and maisonettes, and newer homes built where older blocks once stood. Many houses are rented, many have been altered over the years, and that means a wide range of locks on the doors. We keep the van stocked for all of them.

Why we can usually get to Burngreave quickly

Our base near the Parkway sits on the east side of the city, and S4 is just the other side of Brightside. We normally come in along Upwell Street, Grimesthorpe Road or up from the Wicker, depending on which part of the area you are in and what the traffic is doing. Across Sheffield we usually arrive within 25 to 45 minutes, and the east and north east of the city is often where we are quickest.

We will give you a realistic time when you ring. If you are stuck outside with children, or a door has been damaged and you cannot secure the house, tell us and we will prioritise the call where we can. Our locked out service page explains what happens when we arrive.

Victorian terraces and converted villas: locks that need attention

Terraced houses around Page Hall, Grimesthorpe and Burngreave Road often have a front door that opens straight onto the street and a back door into a yard or ginnel. Both doors matter. We regularly find old rim cylinders, worn 2 lever mortice locks and back doors held with nothing more than a bolt. A 5 lever BS3621 mortice lock from £75, or a double locking nightlatch from £45, makes a big difference to an old timber door.

In Pitsmoor many of the bigger Victorian houses have been converted into flats. That usually means a shared communal front door, often with a nightlatch or a door closer, and then a separate lock on each flat door. If the communal door is slamming, not latching or has a broken closer, the whole building is less secure. We fit and adjust door closers and replace the locks on both the main door and individual flats.

Where several tenants share a house, a keyed alike set, or a small master key system for larger buildings, means the landlord can carry fewer keys while each tenant only opens their own door.

Lock changes for landlords and tenants in S4

A lot of homes in Burngreave and Pitsmoor are rented, and lock changes between tenancies are a big part of what we do here. Changing the cylinder on a uPVC or composite door is quick and starts from £20, so there is no reason to hand a new tenant keys that a previous occupant might still have. We can also rekey some locks from £25 rather than replacing them.

For possession and eviction work we can attend with a bailiff or enforcement agent, gain entry and change the locks the same visit. We only do this with the right paperwork in place. See our landlord locksmith service and our eviction lock change page for how it works.

  • Change of tenancy cylinder swaps
  • Keyed alike locks for front, back and room doors
  • Window lock repairs before a new let
  • Eviction lock changes with proper paperwork
  • Mailbox locks for flats with shared post boxes

After a break in: securing your home the same night

If someone has forced a door or broken a window, the first job is making the property safe. We can change damaged locks on the spot, repair a forced frame where possible, and board up a broken door or window so you can sleep in the house tonight. Emergency boarding up starts from £120. Ring the police first if anyone may still be inside or you need a crime reference.

Once the place is secure we can talk about stronger locks. Anti snap cylinders, a proper BS3621 mortice on timber doors and window locks on ground floor windows are the usual upgrades. Our emergency boarding up page covers the process in more detail.

Shops and businesses on Spital Hill and around

Spital Hill, Burngreave Road and the streets around them have plenty of small shops, takeaways and community buildings. We help with commercial lockouts, shutter padlocks, door closers, panic bars on fire exits and lock changes when staff leave. A commercial lockout starts from £60, and we are open early and late, so shop owners do not have to lose a morning's trade waiting for help.

If you run a business in S4, our commercial locksmith service covers the full range, from a single shop door to a building with several tenants.
