As your locksmith in Fulwood, we look after homes from Nether Green and Stumperlowe up to Lodge Moor and the Ranmoor edge of S10, day and night. Fulwood is across the city from our Broughton Lane base, so we are honest about timing: usually 30 to 45 minutes. A lockout starts from £59, and we confirm the starting price before we leave.

Fulwood homes are bigger than the Sheffield average and often have more doors, more outbuildings and stricter insurance conditions. The work here leans towards insurance-rated mortice locks, hardwood and composite doors, gates, garages and safes. If you live nearer the city, see our full list of Sheffield areas.

Fulwood, Lodge Moor and Nether Green: the streets we serve

The S10 stretch west of Ranmoor runs from tree-lined avenues near Fulwood Road out to the last houses before the moors on Redmires Road. We cover all of it, including the lanes that sat-navs struggle with.

If you are on the Ranmoor side, our Ranmoor locksmith page goes into the Victorian villas and halls there. Towards Crosspool and Crookes, see the Crookes locksmith page, and south of the Porter valley the Bents Green and Ringinglow page picks up.

An honest arrival time from the other side of the city

Our base is at 45 Broughton Lane, S9 2DF, in the east end near Meadowhall and the Arena. To reach Fulwood we take the Parkway into the city, cross the inner ring road and head out along Glossop Road and Fulwood Road through Broomhill and Ranmoor. When the city centre is busy we sometimes switch to Ecclesall Road and cut across via Hangingwater Road instead.

That is a cross-city drive of around eight or nine miles, and it is affected by university traffic and the evening rush. We quote 30 to 45 minutes and tell you on the phone if it is likely to be longer. Late at night it is usually quicker.

For houses out at Lodge Moor or along Redmires Road, give us a house name or a nearby landmark as well as the number, because some properties sit back from the road.

What Fulwood houses need from a locksmith

Fulwood has a mix of Edwardian and interwar detached houses, stone-built older properties, mid-century detached homes on the slopes towards Lodge Moor and more recent executive builds. That mix shapes the jobs we do.

Hardwood front doors

Many period and interwar houses keep a solid timber front door with a nightlatch and a mortice deadlock. Insurers usually expect the mortice to be a 5 lever lock to BS3621. If yours is an older lever lock without the kitemark, we can fit a BS3621 replacement, which starts from £75. Some newer timber doors use a multipoint lock, which we also repair.

Composite and uPVC doors on later homes

Mid-century and newer houses often have composite doors. The weak point is usually the cylinder rather than the door, so we recommend an anti-snap TS007 3-star or SS312 Diamond cylinder. Read about the difference on our anti-snap locks page.

Bi-folds, French doors and conservatories

Rear glazed doors are a common entry point on detached homes with private gardens. We check that locking points engage and that keeps are secure; see our patio and French door repairs for the detail.

Gates, garages and outbuildings on larger S10 plots

  1. Driveway and side gates

Timber and metal gates need proper locks, not just a bolt. We fit keyed gate locks, hasps and padlocks; see gate lock replacement in Sheffield.

  2. Detached garages

Garages often hold bikes, tools and cars. Garage door locks start from £20 and we repair stuck up-and-over and side doors.

  3. Sheds and garden rooms

Garden offices need more than a padlock. A closed-shackle padlock starts from £20 and a combination padlock from £35.

  4. Home safes

If you have lost the code or key to a home safe, our safe opening service starts from £89, with proof of ownership required.

A security assessment, from £65, is a good way to look at all of these in one visit and decide what is worth upgrading.

Upgrading security on a Fulwood home

Our approach to upgrades

We explain what each lock is rated to and what your insurer is likely to ask for, then let you choose. You will never be pushed into a more expensive lock than the door needs.

Common upgrades here include:

  • High-security lock installation from £120, for front doors that need extra protection.
  • Digital and smart locks from £110 to £140 depending on type, useful if family, carers or cleaners need access without spare keys.
  • Window locks from £40, especially for ground-floor sashes and casements at the back of the house.

Our guide to the five benefits of anti-snap locks is a useful read before you decide.

Why timber doors near the moor edge start to stick

Fulwood and Lodge Moor sit high on the western side of Sheffield, close to the Peak District, and they get more wind and rain than the city centre. Solid timber doors swell in a wet winter and shrink in a dry summer. As the door moves, the bolt of the mortice lock stops lining up with the keep in the frame, and the key becomes hard to turn.

SignWhat is happeningWhat we do
Mortice key only turns if you push the doorBolt rubbing on the keepAdjust or move the keep, or repair the lock
Nightlatch will not catch when the door closesDoor has dropped or swollenRealign the staple or ease the door
Key feels gritty or loose in the lockWorn levers or a worn cylinderReplace the lock before the key snaps

Never force a stiff key. A snapped key in a mortice lock is much harder to remove than one in a cylinder, although our broken key extraction service handles both from £55.

Emergency locksmith in Fulwood: getting back in

Most lockouts happen because a nightlatch has shut behind you or a key has been left inside. On hardwood doors with a latch only, we can usually open the door without any damage. If the mortice deadlock is locked as well, it takes longer, and we explain the options before we start.

We check ID and proof of address before opening any home. If a child or vulnerable person is inside, or something is running such as a cooker or a bath, call 999 first. Our main house lockout service page explains the process, and all our charges are on the Sheffield locksmith price list.
